New Bee Experiences start Spring 2021!
Curious Goat General Store is a farm stand and apiary on a permaculture homestead in the fields of Prince Edward County, Ontario. It's a public expression of values that are important to us. We sell handmade and homegrown goods that are kind to you and to the environment, while guiding guests toward a deeper appreciation of the connection between pollinators, food, and the natural world.
We work hard to be collaborative with our neighbour friends and producers. We value our partners immensely and are fully invested in maintaining a local economy and being part of a community where we all support one another.
Beekeeping is a very intentional process. Even though bees look like they’re off doing their own thing, watching the weather, the effect of the seasons helps the bees thrive, and what's in bloom continually reminds us of where we live and how interconnected the ecosystems are. Our bees keep us grateful for the slice of nature we live on and how precious the environment is. We want to share that gratitude and awe with as many people as we can.
This year we built a farm stand and honey house to invite people to where we live, see the bees, plants they pollinate and see how honey is extracted. We want to create immersive opportunities for people to foster wonder and curiousity about things they might not otherwise encounter.
Curious Goat wants everyone to “Bee Curious.” Whether it’s curiosity about ourselves or curiosity about the world, when you’re interested in learning, you grow as a person and as a member of your own community. We hope to feed people’s curiosity while inspiring them with practical ways to be friendly to the Earth.
We value sustainability, community, and curiosity.
We moved to Prince Edward County hoping to create a permaculture environment, reclaim the land for native wildlife, and grow our own food. Six years later, we’re living in a completely off-grid homestead, caretaking a thriving sustainable bee yard and garden, while working with amazing local vendors, and sharing our love for bees.
A few people wonder how we got our name, especially since we don’t keep goats. We started our enterprise originally by making goat cheese. Our adventure with bees started in 2014 when we were gifted beehives by family in 2014. Since switching to a range of garden offerings and honey, in 2017, we’ve added Earth-friendly alternatives with beeswax products.
As we continued to grow our gardens and bee yard, we realized our homestead is an opportunity for people to learn about the connection between their food and pollinators. That’s why we created the Bee Experience in 2020.
Curious Goat General Store provides the opportunity to understand an appreciate the relationship between bees, ecosystems and the food we eat. Our goal is continually hone an experience that lets guests slow down, take the time to be enriched by all bees do, and take home knowledge to enrich their own environment.
